Course Description

This course will provide the student with the skills needed for helping individuals, couples and families receive healing as they experience physical, psychological and spiritual dysfunction.  The student will be able to understand the major approaches to counseling and psychotherapy and to integrate each theory and technique with Biblical revelation and spiritual warfare in the process of bringing healing to human pain and suffering.

Course Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Apply the knowledge and skills in integrative Christian counseling in the process of bringing healing to clients.
  • Utilize the knowledge of counseling and psychotherapy to help clients realize their God-given potential in life.
  • Integrate skills in counseling and psychotherapy with Biblical revelation and spiritual warfare.
  • Apply systems approach to counseling individuals, couples and families.

Bowen Family Systems Theory

Course Description

The social, emotional, and physical health of society and culture are directly related to the social, emotional, and physical health of family life which is the foundational structure of the human community. This course will train the student to become knowledgeable of systems approach to family life. The student will be able to identify the core concepts of the Bowen Family Systems Theory as they apply directly to a couple’s relationship and the family system they establish for their family unit, and the powerful influence the system they establish exerts over their children in all areas of their everyday life and relationships.

Course Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Apply the knowledge of Bowen Family Systems Theory to the understanding of how a husband and wife become a couple.
  • Utilize the knowledge of Bowen Family Systems Theory in determining the factors that establish the emotional health of a family unit.
  • Integrate academic and practical skills learned in the course with the student’s own life and experiences in her or his family of origin.
  • Utilize the knowledge gathered in the course to help individuals and members of his or her family of origin and others in gaining understanding of what constitutes social, emotional, and physical health for individuals, society, and culture.
