Course Description

The world in the twentieth-first century is marked by religious, ideological and emotional distance between peoples. This distance between peoples can become tragic and destructive to human life and culture. This course is designed to close the knowledge and understanding gap between peoples by exploring the literature of the world of renowned authors who writing in their own cultural context brought to light the universal struggle and longing of the human heart for the meaning of human existence.

Course Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Apply the knowledge and skills in literary analysis for understanding peoples of various cultural backgrounds.
  • Utilize the knowledge of world literature for better understanding of human life.
  • Integrate the understanding of literature from various countries in the student’s own personal life for growth and development as a world citizen.
  • Apply skills obtained in the study of world literature to a richer and more meaningful interaction with other individuals in one’s own cultural context.
